“An absolute charmer. He enchanted the hearts.”

Borsalino was the first descendant of the Hanoverian Bolero in the Kemmer stable. Joachim Kemmer had chosen him at the stallion fair in Verden although at 2 ½ years he measured only 1,59 m. Being a few centimetres short he didn't classify for breeding. But his smart head, the well-proportioned conformation and his outstanding gaits suggested that he would be a good riding horse. Father Kemmer almost missed the auction and arrived just in time to make his bid. The little sorrel went to him and was taken to Walle. Right afterwards Borsalino was gelded and broken in. His nervousness was a constant problem during his schooling and at the first starts in tournaments. At 5 he went through another growth spurt and reached his final height of 1,66 m. At 6 Heike placed him in M-dressage tests, at 7 he already won the first S-dressage tests. When he became more and more successful and even won Grand Prix-tournaments, some would have liked to see him as a stud-horse after all. But it was certainly easier for Heike to concentrate on his training as a dressage horse.
