Heike discovered 4-year-old Golo in Hamburg. The gelding had extremely good basic gaits and was a cheeky talent in his young years. Heike and Christoph Baumeister, then professional in the Kemmer stable, often had a hard time to control Golo but he learnt to transform his energy into willingness to work and became an excellent "student". Lesson after lesson sank in.
When he was eight Heike rode him to the first victory in the difficult class, and together with Herbert Rehbein she added the final touch for the Grand Prix. Soon the pair celebrated their first victory in this class. In 1991 they won the bronze medal at the German championship, in 1992 they defeated all international competitors at the CHIO Rotterdam. They almost qualified for the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992.
Until 1995 Golo collected more than 60 victories and 92 placings in tournaments. As a pensioner he enjoyed grazing at Amselhof together with Lotus for many more years.
